Alfred 'Al' Lee Martellotti
Alfred "Al" Lee Martellotti, 86, of Sardinia, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2023 at Monarch Meadows Nursing Home in Seaman.
He was born March 30, 1937 in Cincinnati, the son of the late Mario Ercole and Jenny Lind (Underwood) Martellotti. On Oct. 3, 1959 at the Hartwell Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, he married Judy Lynne (Koch) Martellotti, who passed away Oct. 6, 2020.
Al taught at Hillsboro High School for several years and was a part-time deputy for Highland County Sheriff's office. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, a Civil War re-enactor and a living history participant and history lecturer. Mr. Martelotti was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Mowrystown American Legion Roy W. Wilson Post 0694.
Surviving are his two daughters, Melinda Sue (Greg) Bohrer and Denise Ann (Anthony) Hawkins; six grandchildren, Jacob Ray (Carrie) Bohrer, Caleb Albert (Rachel) Bohrer DVM, Megan Elaine (Andy) Winkle, Regan Sue (Justin Koeth) Bohrer RN, Ethan Wayne (Danielle) Hawkins and Emmy Marie (Kodi Haas) Hawkins; and great-grandchildren, Austin Bohrer, Ryleann Bohrer, Natalie Bohrer, Olivia Bohrer, Isabelle Bohrer, Penelope Winkle, Evelynn Hawkins, Parker Winkle and Orson Bohrer.
In addition to his parents and wife, Al was preceded in death by his brother, Carlo Albert Martellotti; and a granddaughter, Emily Denise Hawkins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023 at the convenience of the family at Edgington Funeral Home, 17 E. Main St., Mowrystown, with Pastor Kraig Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery, Taylorsville, where the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.

Al Martellotti
I was saddened to hear of Al's passing. There are some people who stand out as you go thru life. Al was one of those for me. I met Al and Judy from purchasing trophies for our basketball league. I always set aside and hour or two when I picked up the trophies as Al and I would start discussions on a wide variety of subjects. When I retired from OSHP in 2002, Al and Judy presented me with a beautiful plaque, I still have the plaque on our living room wall today. My thoughts are with his family. Al was one of a kind. Al and Judy can now continue their journey in a better place, free of all worries. Godspeed Al.

Sending prayers and condolences to your family…I was the shop secretary my senior year at HHS. Mr. Martellotti was a no nonsense educator with a big heart! He loved to play Charley Pride records. I have fond memories of those days. I’m so sorry for your loss.
