Woman of the Year Awards presented by GOP Women's Club

The Highland County Republican Women’s Club recently honored two outstanding women.

Mary Wharton and the late Bernease Priest received the club’s first “Woman of the Year” awards.” Each has contributed countless hours to promote “Republicanism” and had worked on many campaigns for nation, state and local candidates.

Mrs. Wharton was also recognized for her contributions to the Highland County Fair and to other service organizations in the county.

Mrs. Priest was honored posthumously and was remembered for her civic work as well as her public service as mayor and councilwoman for Leesburg. Her award was presented to her daughter, Shawn Priest, and sister, Jean Hodson.

A lovely plaque bearing their names will hang in the Republican Headquarters at 200 W. Main St., Hillsboro.
