Woman injured in Greenhouse collapse

A portion of a greenhouse collapsed Wednesday afternoon in Washington Township, temporarily trapping a woman inside. 

The event occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. off state Route 73 in the community of Berrysville.

Highland County was under a severe thunderstorm and tornado watch, with heavy winds and rains moving through the area, at the time the incident occurred. 

Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward said that his office received the report of the collapsed greenhouse, reporting that one woman was trapped inside. 

Capt. Jeff Martin of Hillsboro Fire and Rescue said that deputies with the Highland County Sheriff's Office were arrived on the scene first and they, along with the assistance of family member and greenhouse personnel, were able to remove the debris from the victim. 

"It is our understanding that the lady who was injured was trying to save the greenhouse," Martin said. "She was right in the middle of it when it collapsed on her. The deputies and some of the greenhouse crew were able to lift the debris off of her and slide her away from the area, so we were able to take medical control and finish up the rescue."

Martin said he could not comment on the victim's condition or injuries. 

Witnesses at the scene said there were high winds in the area during the collapse. 

Across Highland County, tree limbs were down on state Route 247 and at approximately 5 p.m. a sheriff's deputy in the area was removing them from the roadway.

The Fairfax area in Concord Township sustained heavy winds with downed and uprooted trees.
