Wilkin issues statement on Vinton County chemical leak

COLUMBUS—State Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) is urging his constituents to stay safe and follow orders from the local sheriff's office on an ongoing chemical leak from the Austin Powder Plant in northern Vinton County.

"Public safety is of the utmost importance," said Wilkin. "I urge those affected to listen to the local sheriff's office and other emergency personnel on what to do and how to proceed during this emergency." 

An evacuation order has been issued in parts of Vinton County. According to the Vinton County Sheriff's office, a shelter has been set up at the Vinton County High School for evacuees.
