Where's your sign?

After workers for the city of Hillsboro posted new "anti-drug" signs to greet motorists at several entrances to the city in June, some signs were removed on Aug. 27.

The signs – with skull and crossbones – read: "The citizens of Hillsboro warn you. If you sell drugs here, we will put you away. This means you."

City of Hillsboro employees put up the signs by order of the administration. Some business owners immediately voiced objections to the signs.

On June 25, a sign originally placed adjacent to a North High Street business' driveway was relocated. The Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 informed The Highland County Press on June 25 that this sign was removed from the initial location due to its obvious sight obstruction.

Signs that had been placed at the city limits on East Main Street (S.R. 124 east) and Chillicothe Avenue (U.S. 50 east) were removed this week.

The Highland County Press has asked the city if the signs were stolen or ordered removed by the administration.

A caller advised the newspaper that city workers were removing the signs on Thursday, Aug. 27.
