A very Happy 105th Birthday to Bainbridge historian June Gregg

The jewel of Bainbridge, June Gregg, is waving her flag and having the time of her life, celebrating her 105th birthday this week.
This lady joined the Memorial Day parade and celebration and enthusiastically invited everyone to participate.

On June 1, 2016, she was the center of attention when a carry-in lunch was held at the Bainbridge Senior Center in her honor, along with the dedication and acceptance of a 6 foot x 6 foot picture from S.A.L.T. (Seniors & Law Enforcement Together).
The picture was ordered from a mail-order magazine for $35. When it came, it was in two pieces and needed to be matched and put together on a large piece of cardboard. It was used as a backdrop for Ross County Senior Citizens in Chillicothe for a veteran’s service.
S.A.L.T. was generous enough to sponsor the framing. The glass was purchased from Cooper Glass at a discounted price. The frame was made by Paint Valley FFA from raw lumber donated by Knisley Lumber, Potts Hill Road.
This took about one year to finish. After all the waiting, there was controversy on hanging the finished picture in Chillicothe Senior Citizens as it is not a veteran’s facility.
Bainbridge Senior Center President Patsy Montgomery reported she and Bainbridge Senior Center members would love to display the picture at their facility.
Thus, the dedication and acceptance of the picture on June 1, 2016 by veteran’s spokesperson Jim Houghland and the oldest S.A.L.T. member, 105-year-old June Gregg.
S.A.L.T. says “June Gregg has been a very generous member, lived a very active life and is still doing her part at 105.”
The picture portrays seven things:
• Abraham Lincoln statue;
• A large eagle;
• Iwo Jima;
• Golden Gate Bridge;
• Washington, D.C. Capitol Building;
• Mount Rushmore; and,
• The American Flag.
Bainbridge Senior Center is proud of the display, generously donated by Joyce Knisley, and invites everyone to stop in and see this wonderful work of art. Bainbridge Senior Center is also appreciative of all the work that June does for the Center. She continues to be an active member of the Fall Festival of Leaves Committee (look for her in the festival office, October 14, 15, 16 where she will gladly share stories about the area, give you some buckeyes for your pocket and leave you totally entertained), and Bainbridge Historical Society.
Before the Fall Festival of Leaves recessed for the summer, she was honored again on Tuesday, June 7, when committee members shared cake and ice cream and reminisced about changes in the last 49 years the festival has been in operation. She has entertained visitors from Michigan and Georgia and, of course, numerous local visitors bearing cards, flowers and gifts.
