U.S. 50 chase ends in crash

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports that on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at approximately 12:22 a.m., the Highland County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a multi-agency vehicle pursuit, which reportedly was initiated in Wilmington.

The suspect vehicle, identified as a gray Toyota van, was reported as having entered Highland County on U.S. Route 50 west, being pursued by officers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Clinton County Sheriff's Office and the Wilmington Police Department.

Sheriff Barrera further reports that as the pursuit progressed, stop-sticks were deployed in multiple areas along U.S. Route 50, but the stop-sticks were unsuccessful in bringing the fleeing vehicle to a stop.

In an attempt to end the pursuit before the vehicle entered the City of Hillsboro, Highland County Sheriff's deputies boxed the suspect vehicle in and upon doing so, one of the Highland County Sheriff's Office's patrol vehicles was rammed by the suspect vehicle.

The suspect vehicle then went off of the right side of U.S. 50 into an open field, where the suspect vehicle came to a stop and a short foot pursuit ensued.

As reported by Sheriff Barrera, deputies of the Highland County Sheriff's Office, along with officers of the Ohio State Patrol, were able to apprehend the suspect.

The suspect is identified as 25-year old Brooke Bailey, of Hillsboro.

Bailey was shown to have felony warrants out for her arrest at the time of the vehicle pursuit.

Additional charges will be sought against Brooke Bailey as a result of the incident.

Sheriff Barrera states that no injuries were sustained by the Highland County Sheriff's Office's deputy as a result of the officer's vehicle having been struck by Bailey's vehicle.
