UPDATED: Ohio Sen. Bob Peterson involved in I-71 crash
Channel 10 TV (WBNS) in Columbus is reporting this morning that 17th District State Sen. Bob Peterson was in a minivan that rear-ended a tractor-trailer on I-71 Tuesday night.
The accident happened in the southbound lanes near State Route 56 around 9:30 p.m., the station reported.
"Senator Peterson was air lifted to the OSU Wexner Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries," according to the report at: http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2015/02/03/pickaway-county-crash-interstate-71-state-senator.html.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Reports indicate the senator may have been distracted.
Sen. Peterson, R-Sabina, is a former Fayette County commissioner and he represents Highland County in the 17th District, which encompasses Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Pike and Ross counties as well as portions of Lawrence, Pickaway and Vinton counties.
Senator Peterson and his family are the eighth generation of Petersons to farm in the U.S.
Peterson raises corn, soybeans, wheat and livestock on his family’s farm. He also has been active in the Farm Bureau in a variety of leadership positions, culminating to his position as Ohio Farm Bureau President for nearly five years.
He was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2011. He joined the Ohio Senate in 2012.
