Tractors sold at 'Ag is Everyone's Business' to benefit local youth programs

The Highland County Chamber of Commerce held their third annual "Ag is Everyone's Business" event on Friday, Jan. 16 at Southern State Community College. Keynote speaker "Machinery Pete" of RFD-TV took the stage and entertained the audience of over 450 guests.

For the third year in a row, after the keynote speaker, Rick Williams of Rick Williams Auction Company took to the stage to auction off three pedal tractors that had been donated by members of the local ag community.

Five Points Implement Co. donated a John Deere 4020 while Steve Thompson of Thompson Funeral Services and Sue Davis Thompson of Preferred Midwest Title/Davis Law Office donated an Oliver 70. In addition, Bane-Welker Equipment, formerly The Equipment Superstore, donated an International 766 Farmall.

The John Deere 4020 went to Ken Davis and family with a bid of $950. The Oliver 70 sold for $700 to Merchants National Bank and South Central Power, and the International 766 Farmall returned to Bane-Welker Equipment with their own bid of $1,050.

Proceeds from the John Deere 4020 will benefit Highland County 4-H, while proceeds from the Oliver 70 and International 766 Farmall benefit the Highland County FFA chapters and Southern State Community College ag program.

Planning for "Ag is Everyone's Business" 2016 is already under way, and the Highland County Chamber looks forward to another successful year for Highland County agriculture.
