Tornado watch issued for Highland County

A tornado watch and a hazardous weather outlook has been issued by the National Weather Service for Highland and surrounding counties, in effect until 9 p.m.
According to the NWS in Wilmington, the weather outlook is for southeast Indiana, north Kentucky and southwest Ohio.
"A strengthening low-pressure system will move out of the Mississippi Valley and into the Great Lakes Region through tonight," according to NWS. "As it does, a strong cold front will push east across the Ohio Valley Region late this afternoon and evening. Some of the thunderstorms are expected to reach severe limits with damaging straight line winds being the main severe weather threat. However, large hail and isolated tornadoes will also be possible."
The late afternoon weather forecast has Hillsboro expecting "a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could be severe. Cloudy, with a high near 62 degrees. Breezy, with a south wind around 22 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent."
Tonight, "showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 32 degree. Windy, with a west wind 26 to 29 mph decreasing to between 15 and 18 mph. Winds could gust as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."
Saturday, the expected high is 45 degrees with "breezy gusts" of wind around 32 mph.
