Tornado rips through Highland County

On Sunday, July 27, 2014 at approximately 8:30 p.m. an apparent tornado touched down on Ervin Road, causing several downed power lines and trees along with severely damaging a mobile home. The tornado crossed over U.S. Route 62, striking a nearby church where a bus had been blown across the parking lot and the church sign was heavily damaged.
The tornado then continued onto Green Road near the corner of Concord Road where the most damage was sustained. Downed power lines, trees snapped in half and lots of debris was strewn throughout several residents yards, including an entire wooden shed that was mostly still intact.
As of 10:45 p.m., crews were still on the scene cleaning up debris and trying to restore power to the area.
