The third annual Walk Against Animal Cruelty fundraiser hosted by the Fayette Humane Society is quickly approaching. The event will take place at the shelter house in Washington Park, located on Eyman Drive in Washington Court House, Saturday, Sept. 12.
This year, the Washington Court House Police K9 Unit and the horses from the Greenfield Police Department’s Mounted Unit will be participating. The horses will lead the walk on the one-mile path around the park.

Brad Adams, the Outreach Director and Humane Officer who coordinates the event, said that this is not only an event to raise funds but also awareness of cruelty to animals and how animals can play an important role in public safety.
"Our mission as humane officers is protecting the abused and neglected animals in Fayette County and the event will raise more awareness toward animal cruelty issues." Adams said.
"The handlers of the K9s and the horses from the Washington Court House Police Department and the Greenfield Police Department will demonstrate how their animals protect the public. The money raised from this event will assist in supporting our animal cruelty investigations division. I am hoping we will have another successful year thanks to the community’s support and participation. We encourage everyone to bring their dogs to walk with them and join the fun."
A registration booth will be set up at the shelter house at 10 a.m.
The walk will begin at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is also an option by going online.

After the walk, there will be other activities that will take place such as the best dog trick contest, best dressed dog contest (dogs should be dressed after walk), biggest dog, smallest dog contest, raffles and refreshments. Winners will receive medals. The individual raising the most money will also receive an award. Contestants participating in the most-raised-money contest should bring money they raised in an envelope and submit the final amount at the registration table prior to the walk.
