Teen to remain in custody following Feb. 23 detention hearing

A detention hearing was held Monday, Feb. 23 before Judge Kevin L. Greer in Highland County Common Pleas Court Probate/Juvenile Division for a 17-year-old male suspect in a Feb. 20 shooting in Paint Township.

During the hearing, Highland County Prosecuting Attorney Anneka Collins informed the court that charges have not been filed on the teen, pending an update on the allege victim's status.

The court appointed Hillsboro attorney J.D. Wagoner to represent the 17-year-old.

As previously reported, on Feb. 20 at 8:46 a.m., the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a shooting in the Rocky Fork Lake Region of Paint Township. 

Upon officers' arrival, a juvenile was taken into custody by deputies, according to Sheriff Randy Sanders.

The victim was transported from the scene by Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to assist with the crime scene. 

A second hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday, March 5.
