Ted Downing named Bright Local superintendent

At a special board meeting on March 30, the Bright Local Board of Education selected their next superintendent. The Board voted unanimously to select Ted C. Downing as Superintendent, effective August 1, 2015.

In order to provide for a smooth transition, Mr. Downing will be working in the district several days during the month of July. Mr. Downing will succeed Interim Superintendent Terry Fouch and former Superintendent Dee Wright. Mr. Fouch will continue to serve as interim superintendent through July 2015.

Bright Local Board President, Mike Ames stated, “We are extremely excited to have Mr. Downing accept our superintendent’s position. He is well prepared for the challenges ahead, and the board knows that he is a very dedicated individual that will make a difference in the lives of our students.”

I would like to thank the Bright Local School Board of Education for this opportunity to work with the excellent staff at Bright Local Schools. I also look forward to working with the community to help continue to strive to improve the school district,” stated Mr. Downing.

Currently, Mr. Downing has served as the Superintendent for the Bridgeport Exempted Village Schools for the past six years.  Prior to that, Mr. Downing was high school Principal at Eastern Brown Local Schools, in Brown County for eighteen years.  Prior to his service at Eastern Local Schools, Mr. Downing served as the assistant high school principal, athletic director and as a teacher at Greenfield Exempted Village Schools for seventeen years.  Mr. Downing has also served as an adjunct professor for Southern State Community College. 

He obtained a bachelor's degree from Otterbein College in Health and Physical Education. He earned his teaching licenses in Science, Health and Physical education.  He also has a master's degree from the Xavier University in educational administration.  Mr. Downing lives near Bright Local Schools with his wife, Jill.  Together, they have two children and five grandchildren.
