Taking a trip down memory lane

Rain or shine, area residents took the opportunity to step back in time over the weekend at the 29th annual Highland County Antique Machinery Show.
The popular event was held June 28-30 at Amvets Recreation Park off of North Shore Drive in the Rocky Fork Lake region. More than 100 vintage tractors were on display, many of which look just as good as they did when they were brand new so many years ago.
“The kids love the old tractors,” said Scott Barrera, referring to his children, Haydon, Caleb and Brynlee. “It’s great to see all the antique machinery here.”
Scott Barrera, and his wife, Karen, brought a 1951 John Deere B to the show, and Scott had all three children on machine during the tractor parade later in the day.

In addition to the tractors, the machinery show featured a working blacksmith, steam engines, a tractor parade each day, a mini flea market, kiddie tractor pulls, garden tractor pulls, kiddie train rides, raffles, music and more.
A veterans program was held Saturday night, with area resident and pastor R.D. “Bob” Hottle giving the keynote address.
“In spite of some of the rain we had, we’ve had a good turnout,” said Jane Malott, secretary of the Highland County Antique Machinery Club. “Rain or shine, we look forward to this.”
