Highland County Sheriff's Office, Press Release

On July 10, at approximately 9:50 p.m., a Highland County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a 2004 Honda in the Allensburg area on U.S. Route 50 for an alleged traffic violation.

The driver allegedly fled, and a pursuit ensued, with speeds reaching up to 100 mph. The vehicle was passing other vehicles on a double yellow line.

The vehicle entered the Hillsboro city limits and allegedly crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The driver then allegedly fled on foot, and an HCSO K9 apprehended the suspect.

Jerry Wayne Harner Jr. was arrested and charged with obstructing official business, failure to comply, and resisting arrest. He is currently being held at the Highland County Justice Center.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Lynchburg Police Department and the Hillsboro Police Department for their help with this incident.
