Southern State Community College’s Theatre Department presents the world premiere of “Othering,” by the College’s own Rainee Angles, Professor of Theatre/Speech, playing April 4-6 in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee will begin at 3:30 p.m.

“Othering” weaves together the cast and crew’s personal experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic with their poignant performances of “The Diary of Anne Frank”. Through diaries, news stories, social media, and powerful original dialogue, “Othering” examines deep-rooted social inequalities and the challenges that arise from them in today’s landscape, while not comparable in severity to Anne Frank’s world, share some unsettling similarities. This innovative performance fuses video, sound, and projections to create a compelling narrative that reflects humanity’s resilience and struggles in 2020 creating a unique and thought-provoking journey that connects past and present in an unforgettable theatrical event.

The cast includes Bob Brown, Paula Campagna, Camden Griffith, Madison Hatfield, Chelsea Heifner, Ian Holmes, Leslie Holmes, Mark Holmes, Bronwyn Jones, Johanna Kelley, Logan Savage, and Payton Taylor.

The production team includes Rainee Angles (director), Brent Angles and Rainee Angles (production design), Zanna Eckman (costumes), Benjamin Gullett (public relations, sound and projection design), and Chelsea Heifner (stage manager).
