Southwest Ohio lawmakers to spread holiday cheer during Children's Hospital visit
On Wednesday, lawmakers from southwest Ohio will visit patients, families and staff at Cincinnati Children's Hospital to deliver presents and show their gratitude to the healthcare workers who spend time away from their own families to care for others.
"Every holiday season, my wife Carolyn and I are humbled by the courage and optimism shown by the patients and families, which is matched only by the generosity of staff here and in hospitals around the country," said Senator Bill Coley (R-Liberty Township), whose district is served by Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Last year, lawmakers visited Dayton Children's Hospital where they met with families and hospital staff.
"Having a child who requires hospitalization during the holidays is incredibly stressful for families," said Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City), who helped lead the delegation at Dayton Children's in 2014. “We hope this small gesture gives patients, families and staff a sense of our thoughts and gratitude this Christmas season."

“It is an honor to spread holiday cheer at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with my Senate colleagues," said Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati). "Ohio’s youth hold the keys to our future and Cincinnati Children’s is an indispensable asset in the Greater Cincinnati community and the State of Ohio.”
Healthcare providers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital make every effort to shorten the length of hospital stays during the holidays but some will still require treatment and observation away from home.
"We are fortunate to have such an outstanding network of pediatric care facilities in our region and are grateful for these extraordinary professionals who spend time away from their own families to look after these children," said Senator Joe Uecker (R-Miami Township). Uecker represents Clermont and Adams counties, east of Cincinnati.
Senate members and staff collected items to deliver to the hospital as a part of the Ohio Senate's volunteer service program. The nonpartisan program, known as the Emma Project, gives Senate employees an opportunity to complete service projects locally or donate goods and services to those in need.
