Snow accumulation leads to slippery roads

Less than half an inch of accumulation in Highland County led to slippery roads Wednesday.  
According to the National Weather Service, scattered snow showers were expected in the area mainly before 10 p.m., with a low around 20 degrees anticipated. West winds were between 8 and 13 mph. The forecast showed a total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. 
Crews from Highland County, cities and villages, and the Ohio Department of Transportation took to the roadways to clear streets of ice and snow.
According to ODOT District 9, "Crews have been dispatched from the Highland and Brown county highway maintenance facilities this evening to patrol and treat for snow and ice conditions. Routes throughout the area are mostly clear, but pavement is wet and very slick. Ice is likely to be present on bridges and overpasses, and 'black ice' will form quickly as the temperature drops.
"Motorists are reminded to exercise additional caution when traveling tonight, remembering that in ice and snow...take slow," according to ODOT.
