Senator Peterson takes the oath of office

COLUMBUS – The Ohio General Assembly held their Opening Ceremonies for the 131st General Assembly Monday, officially marking the beginning of the new legislative session.

During the ceremonies, State Senator Bob Peterson (R–Washington Court House) was sworn in for his second term in the Ohio Senate, representing the 17th District in the state legislature’s upper chamber. Senator Peterson won reelection to the seat in the November 4, 2014 General Election.

“As a father and a lifelong Ohioan, it is a great honor for me to serve my community in the Ohio Statehouse,” said Peterson. “Our state has changed a lot over the past few years and it is important that we continue our work to strengthen our economy, streamline our government, and find new ways to create more opportunity for every Ohioan so we can all rise and succeed together.”

A farmer by trade, Senator Peterson and his family are the eighth generation of Petersons to farm in the U.S. The Peterson farm raises corn, soybeans, wheat and livestock. He also has been active in the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation in a variety of leadership positions including serving five years as the organization’s president.

Prior to his election to the Ohio Senate, Peterson served for 14 years as a Fayette County Commissioner and as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. During the 130th General Assembly, Peterson was selected to preside as the Chairman of the powerful Senate Standing Committee on Ways and Means and as Chairman of the Finance Subcommittee on General Government.

Peterson’s oath of office was administered by the Honorable Sharon Kennedy, Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court in the Senate Chamber in the historic Ohio Statehouse.

Each term in the Ohio Senate extends four years. Peterson’s term will expire at midnight on December 31, 2018.

Senator Bob Peterson represents the 17th District in the Ohio Senate, which encompasses all or part of Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, and Vinton Counties. He is the Chairman of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on General Government.
