Sen. Brown comments on House trade vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the U.S. House of Representatives’ vote today on trade, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement:

“Today, the House sent a strong signal that we need to spend more time on getting trade policy right. For too long, proponents of free trade agreements have made big promises but delivered bad results.

“Our trade agreements should create American jobs rather than ship them overseas, and they should lift up foreign workers rather than exploit them.

“Before we give President Obama authority to fast track the largest trade agreement ever, we need to ensure that our trading partners follow similar labor standards, do not cheat trade law by manipulating currency, and do not dump unfairly-subsidized imports into our markets. American workers and manufacturers deserve no less.”
