Sen. Brown announces more than $1.9 million in new federal resources to support southwest Ohio firefighters
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced Wednesday that fire departments in Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren Counties have been awarded federal resources by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program.
“Firefighters and first responders keep our communities safe in times of crisis,” Brown said. “These new federal resources will help ensure southwest Ohio’s skilled responders have the updated resources they need to safely do their jobs.”

The awards are as follows:
• Monroe Township Fire-EMS, $211,033 for Operations and Safety (AFG). The department is located in Clermont County, Monroe Township.
• City of Norwood Fire Division, $1,015,495 for Hiring (SAFER). The department is located in Hamilton County, Norwood.
• Loveland-Symmes Fire Department, $680,695 for Regional Request (AFG). The department covers Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties, Loveland.
The AFG program helps firefighters and other first responders protect the public and themselves. Projects funded in the Operations and Safety category include training, facility upgrades and modifications, and supplies such as protective equipment. The SAFER grant program supports the hiring of firefighters and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.
