Sara Burnett named Highland County Senior Citizens Center’s 2016 Senior of the Year

On May 10, during WSRW’s annual Focus on Seniors Exposition held at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center, Sara Burnett was announced as Highland County Senior Citizens Center’s 2016 Senior of the Year.
Every year a member of the center is selected as senior of the year by membership vote.
Sara and her husband, Larry, a senior center band member, have been married for 52 years and have been members of the senior center for about seven years.
Sara volunteers at the center for banquets and has made crafts which the proceeds benefit the senior center. She also volunteers for the center’s popular Hee Haw show for many crowd-favorite comedy skits.

Sara is a friendly face at the center as many new members are introduced to her because she enjoys people and enjoys encouraging them to get involved with the center.
“We have so many friends here at the senior center. We really enjoy it,” Sara said.
Sara participates in many activities through the week such as various games including a new-to-the-center game, Bunco, and enjoys listening to the center’s popular bands.
