Repeat offender arrested for his 10th OVI offense

CINCINNATI – On Friday, Jan. 30, at approximately 11:25 p.m., an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was on routine patrol in Cincinnati, Hamilton County. 

The trooper was stopped in the left turn lane at a red traffic signal from eastbound Seymour Avenue to northbound Reading Road. The trooper observed a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by Timothy L. Lyles, 50, Cincinnati, in the left turn lane beside his cruiser. The Chevrolet initially stopped, and then proceeded through the intersection at a steady red traffic signal to Reading Road. The Chevrolet then committed multiple lane violations. The trooper activated his overhead lights and conducted a traffic stop.

During the traffic stop, Lyles showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol and/or Drugs (OVI).

Lyles has nine prior lifetime OVI convictions, including a prior felony OVI conviction in 2012. With the prior felony OVI conviction, this arrest is subsequently a second felony OVI offense; a felony of the 3rd degree. Lyles was charged with Traffic Signals - Red Light, Operating a Vehicle Under an OVI Suspension, Operating a Vehicle with an Open Container of an Alcoholic Beverage, and Operating a Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol and/or Drugs (OVI). Lyles was incarcerated at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
