Rep. Mike Carey tours Madison County farm, meets with Ohio farmers
U.S. Rep Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15) meets with Ohio farmers in South Solon on Friday, October 31.
SOUTH SOLON – U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, traveled to South Solon in Madison County on Oct. 31 to tour Vallery Farms and meet with farmers to discuss agriculture policy and hear how the government shutdown is hurting farmers.
During the tour, Rep. Carey talked about how many of the provisions in the Republican working family tax cuts package will help Ohio farmers, including the reduction of the death tax on family farms.
“It was great to be in Madison County to see how our Ohio farmers help feed our country, and the world," Carey said. "We must continue to focus on making policy that helps our hardworking farmers prosper today and sets them up for even greater success in the future.
"Thanks to our working family tax cuts that I proudly voted to pass earlier this year, family farms have more prospects to succeed with lower taxes and greater opportunity. However, as the government shutdown drags on, farmers face more uncertainty and fewer resources to help them at USDA. I call on my Democrat colleagues in the Senate to end the shutdown so farmers can get the resources they deserve from our government.”
“We appreciate Congressman Carey taking time to meet with Ohio farmers in Madison County,” Tadd Nicholson, executive director of Ohio Corn & Wheat, said. “These on-farm conversations matter because they connect the decisions made in Washington, D.C. to the realities our farmers face every day.”
