Release of local jobless rates delayed

The United States Department of Labor has notified the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that errors in Pennsylvania’s monthly unemployment data may have compromised local unemployment rates in Ohio counties bordering Pennsylvania.
For that reason, ODJFS said Tuesday, the department has decided to withhold the local unemployment rates until the data from Pennsylvania can be corrected and verified. The errors will not affect Ohio’s January unemployment rate of 9.4 percent.
The ODJFS had announced that jobless rates for January would be released Tuesday morning.
The December rates had shown Highland County had the fourth highest unemployment rate in the state at 14 percent, with Ottawa County taking the top spot at 16.3 percent, Clinton County in second at 15 percent, and Pike County in third at 14.8 percent.
