Reinstated firefighter not called back to active status

Even though a March ruling on the layoff of a Greenfield firefighter has been reversed, it turns out that city firefighter Jamie Thompson may not be returning to active status as earlier anticipated. Thompson received a letter informing him that the Civil Service Commission has, in fact, reversed its Feb. 2, 2009 decision. However, Thompson was informed that his reinstatement was only from Feb. 2-Aug. 28, 2009. He has not been called back to active duty with the department. Acting city manager Harvey Everhart told The Highland County Press, "We are working with the law director and our Civil Service representative right now," Everhart said. "I really can't comment any further at this time." When asked if the reinstatement was good news for the city, Everhart simply said "yes and no," and offered no additional comment. Numerous city budget cuts have resulted in a reduction of firefighters for the city.[[In-content Ad]]
