Recorder warns public of mailed deed notices

Highland County Recorder Chad McConnaughey reports that several local citizens have received recorded deed notices in the mail in the past week offering a “Grant Deed and Property Assessment Profile.”

The letter, postmarked from Record Transfer Services in Westlake Village, Calif., is a solicitation offering to provide a current grant deed and an assessment of the recipient’s property, including county tax information. The company offers all services for “a processing fee of $83.”

 

[[In-content Ad]]“In the case of this letter, this information could have been obtained from a citizen’s home for free, or about $0.40 in my office,” McConnaughey said. “This company would have charged an elderly lady $83 for this information.
 
“The Highland County Recorder’s Office wants citizens to be aware this is information they can obtain in our offices at a much lower cost, and in some cases can be printed at home free of charge.”
