Portman urges Obama administration to stand up for Ohio workers

After the Ford Motor Company revealed it was pulling out of the Japanese auto market, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) continued his push to crack down on currency manipulation by foreign competitors, urging the Administration to support Ohio exports and workers through our ongoing trade negotiations.

“Today’s news is yet another indication that American auto companies and their workers do not have a level playing field in Japan,” Portman said. “Ford's decision is an example of why real, enforceable currency measures, like those I've championed, are needed.

“This is why we need to get our trade policy right, and if we do, we can increase our exports and create more jobs here in Ohio. I will continue to urge the Obama administration to support American workers and address the currency manipulation issue before any vote on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.”
