The Hillsboro Planning Commission heard from the Highland County Fair Board regarding a request to allow camping in an area near the fair grounds.

The commission met Tuesday night and, according to commission member Ralph Holt, heard from fair board president Dave Stratton regarding the project's details.

Holt said the commission had previously considered the fair board's request, and held a public hearing. During the hearing area residents asked for more information on the plans for the campsite. On Tuesday, Stratton presented the commission with a colored drawing of the area where camping is proposed, behind a housing complex on Chariss Avenue.

Approximately 50 camping spaces were proposed for the area, Holt said.

"The plan showed an area where they would plant trees, which would be a barrier between the campsites and the housing complex," he said.

Holt said the commission scheduled another public hearing for July, which will cover the fairgrounds, as well as a request to close an alley off of John Street.
