Phil Heimlich, a former Hamilton County commissioner, two-term Cincinnati City Council member, and assistant county prosecutor, today announced his candidacy in the Republican primary for Ohio’s Second District Congressional seat.

“I’m running to restore the values that made the Republican party great: Respect for the rule of law, the peaceful transfer of power, the dignity of our fellow men and women, and the pursuit of truth,” Heimlich said.

“Regretfully, today’s GOP has abandoned these values and instead, many in our party engage in election falsehoods, misinformation and conspiracy theories,” he said.

Heimlich believes U.S. democracy is at risk and pledges to protect it.

“We grew up learning how our Founding Fathers fought for the liberties we enjoy today," Heimlich said. "That includes the right to a free press, free and fair elections, and holding corrupt leaders accountable. It’s our duty to fight to hold on to these freedoms.”

As a former prosecutor, Heimlich understands respect for the law across the board. “That includes the rioters in Portland who damaged property during the George Floyd protests, as well as the insurrectionists who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6. When I’m in office, I’ll demand that all lawbreakers be brought to justice, whether they’re liberal, conservative, Democrat or Republican.”

A follower of Jesus’ teaching that “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,” Heimlich believes in treating his political friends and opponents with respect.

“I will not engage in attacks on the press, belittle my opponents or scapegoat the vulnerable members of society,” Heimlich said.

As a pro-democracy Republican, Heimlich has written numerous opinion pieces for publications, such as the Cincinnati Enquirer, Columbus Dispatch, Cleveland Plain Dealer and USA Today, and has appeared on CNN and other television and radio networks.

He served as assistant Hamilton County prosecutor in Cincinnati, where he specialized in felony criminal prosecutions. He was a Cincinnati City Councilman for eight years and a Hamilton County commissioner for four years.

Heimlich graduated with Distinction from Stanford University and earned his law degree at the University of Virginia. He is the proud father of a college sophomore and a high school senior.

A college educated prosecutor is exactly what the 2nd district needs. Searching for his opinions, if any on my favorite topic, the ongoing HB6 scandal. No longer in the 2nd district, except as a property owner, my campaign money contribution has feet.

Are you kidding. I love how to claim to be a republican when your a democrat. You attack donald trump and those who voted for him. Creating further divide but your going to bring us together. Your a phoney. You won't be getting my family's vote. We already have enough of your kind in washington.
