Pepper elected chairman of Ohio Democratic Party

Former Hamilton County commissioner, Cincinnati councilman and recent candidate for Ohio attorney general David Pepper has been elected chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party.

Pepper will begin his term on Dec. 31, succeeding outgoing chairman Chris Redfern.

Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin will remain as vice chairman.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Pepper was first elected to public office in 2001 when he served on the Cincinnati City Council, finishing first out of a field of 26 candidates. He was re-elected for a second term in 2003.

In 2006, Pepper was elected to the three-member Hamilton County Board of Commissioners. He served as the Commission President from 2009-10.

He was the Democratic candidate for state auditor in 2010, campaigning on a platform of increasing efficiency and transparency in government.

In 2014, he ran for Ohio attorney general, losing to incumbent Mike DeWine in the November general election.

Pepper earned his B.A. from Yale University and later earned his J.D. from Yale Law School.
