Area healthcare providers have an opportunity to improve their diagnostic and treatment skills in dealing with patients having common orthopaedic complaints.
An orthopaedic symposium is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 20 at the PACCAR Medical Education Center on the campus of the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.
"Events like this are important because they allow healthcare professionals the opportunity to increase their clinical knowledge and also remain up to date on the latest information available to the medical community," said Dr. W. Bradley Strauch, a sports medicine physician at the Adena Bone and Joint Center, and one of the organizers of the symposium.
A select group of Adena Health System specialists will be discussing common approaches taken in the evaluation and treatment of neck pain, back pain, and upper and lower extremity complaints as well as advances in treatments that are being used by physicians and therapists at Adena.  There will be
hands on opportunities for attendees to participate in breakout sessions and a live surgery broadcast.
Because musculoskeletal complaints are so common, it makes sense for health care professionals to stay abreast of changes in this area, Strauch said.
When people leave the symposium, "they will be thinking of new ways in which they can evaluate and treat patients they see with orthopaedic complaints," he said.
The PACCAR Medical Education Center is a world class education facility and serves as the home of Clinical Education, Business Education, the Wright State Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health's Bachelor's Degree in Nursing program, and the David Meade Massie Virtual Hospital.
To register for the symposium, or for more information, visit www.AdenaPACCAR.com. Information also is available by calling 740-779-8821 or sending an e-mail to mcopp@adena.org. There is a $120 registration fee for physicians and a $60 registration for non-physicians, which includes breakfast and lunch.
