Ohio's U.S. senators at odds on health care repeal

With a new Republicans majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, one of the early legislative proposals is a repeal of the new federal health care law passed last year. The so-called Affordable Care Act, a controversial bill mandating that all Americans must have medical insurance, was passed by Democrat majorities in both the House and Senate and signed into law by President Obama. Since its passage, a number of state attorney general and at least one federal judge have challenged the law's constitutionality. If the House GOP majority does pass a repeal of the law, Ohio's two U.S. Senators, Sherrod Brown, a Lorain Democrat, and Rob Portman, a Terrace Park Republican, will be on opposite sides of the debate in the Senate. Brown supported the bill in Congress. Portman, who joins the Senate this month, has indicated that he thinks law should be repealed and replaced with proposals that reduce costs and increase competition.[[In-content Ad]]
