Ohio Soybean Association encouraged by U.S./China trade news

WORTHINGTON – The Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) welcomes this week's announcement about minimum purchases of soybeans by China brokered by the Trump administration.
 
"As soybean farmers wrap up harvest, we are encouraged by this positive trade news brought about by the diligent dealmaking of the Trump Administration,” said Rusty Goebel, OSA president and Williams County soybean farmer. “We look forward to additional deals and purchases, like the recent sale to China, to ensure increased market access for U.S. soybean farmers."
 
While details are still being confirmed, OSA is encouraged by China’s commitment to purchase a minimum of 12 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans through the remainder of the marketing year and an additional 25 million metric tons annually through 2028. China has historically purchased 25 to 30 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans annually in recent years.
 
OSA is committed to working with the Trump administration to support additional trade deals. This China announcement comes on the heels of the announcement of trade deals Malaysia and Cambodia and a framework for reciprocal trade with Vietnam and Thailand.
