Ohio EPA requests comments about Highland County quarry permit
Ohio EPA will host a public meeting Tuesday, June 13 regarding an application for a wastewater discharge permit for Ohio Asphaltic Limestone Corp. in Highland County.
The meeting will be held Hillsboro High School cafeteria, 550 U.S. 62. An information session begins at 6 p.m., with a hearing immediately following, during which the public can submit comments on the record about the application for the proposed discharge permit.
The company has applied for a permit to discharge treated quarry stormwater and groundwater, as well as washwater from the aggregate processing plant. The discharge would include stormwater from the Miller-Mason Paving Co., which also is located on the property. The facility is located at 8591 Mad River Road, Hillsboro.
If approved, the water would be discharged to an unnamed tributary of Clear Creek, flowing to Clear Creek, Rocky Fork and Scioto River. Discharges must comply with Ohio’s water quality standards that protect human health and the environment.
Ohio EPA is accepting public comments about the application until June 20 at 5 p.m. Written comments can be submitted during the hearing, mailed to Ohio EPA-DSW, Attn: Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, Ohio 43216-1049, or emailed to epa.dswcomments@epa.ohio.gov. Please include the permit name or ID number (NPDES permit 1IJ00146) in the subject line of emails.
