Ohio Department of Agriculture demonstrates ride inspection process ahead of state fair; Ohio State Fair runs July 29-Aug. 9

REYNOLDSBURG – The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Division of Amusement Ride Safety inspects amusement rides at Ohio’s 94 county and independent fairs each year, including the Ohio State Fair.

Today on the Ohio State Fairgrounds, ODA’s Division of Amusement Ride Safety provided a behind-the-scenes look at the inspection process that helps keep fairgoers safe. Inspectors demonstrated the steps they take before rides open and throughout the fair to ensure attractions meet Ohio’s safety requirements.

“Ohio’s fairs tell the story of Ohio agriculture,” said ODA Director Brian Baldridge. “For many families, a trip to the Ohio State Fair is a summer tradition that creates lasting memories. At ODA, we’re committed to keeping those traditions safe by ensuring families can enjoy their favorite amusement rides with confidence. Our ride inspectors bring decades of experience and apply a thorough, multi-step inspection process to make sure every ride meets the highest safety standards before it opens to the public.”

Inspectors with the Division of Amusement Ride Safety perform thousands of ride inspections annually across the state. Inspectors evaluate each ride’s structural integrity, safety systems, signage, and overall operation before approving it for use. Throughout the fair, inspectors remain on-site to conduct additional inspections and respond to any concerns. In 2025, ODA inspectors completed more than 5,700 inspections on more than 3,000 amusement rides across Ohio.
