North Carolina man arrested after alleged altercation with HCSO deputies

Highland County Sheriff Randy Sanders announced Tuesday that charges have been filed against a North Carolina man accused of attacking two HCSO deputies during an incident on state Route 41.

On Monday, July 29 at 10:10 p.m., the Highland County Communications Center received multiple calls of a male reportedly lying in the roadway in the 1700 block of state Route 41, in Brushcreek Township. As deputies arrived on the scene, they were encountered by a male wearing only underwear.

The male allegedly approached deputies in an aggressive manner. After allegedly failing to comply with officers’ commands and continuing to act in an aggressive manner, it is alleged that the suspect physically attacked both deputies.

The suspect continued to disregard the commands of the deputies who were attempting to place him in custody. Highland County Communications immediately summoned assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were able to subdue the suspect, who was checked for injury by the Peebles Life Squad before being transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

The suspect was identified as Mathew R. Segraves, 28, of North Wilkesboro, N.C. Segraves was charged with two counts of aggravated menacing, two counts of assault and one count of obstructing official business.
