North Adams basketball documentary to premiere

While the North Adams Green Devils and Lady Green Devils were fighting to stay alive in the 2010 postseason tournament, a new documentary tells the story of one local team that went all the way.
The film, entitled “We Know,” tells the story of the 1995-96 North Adams Green Devils boys basketball team under the direction of Head Coach Dave Young. That team overcame long odds to be the first Adams County team in 70 years to advance to the state tournament.
The documentary features game footage and interviews from the teams’ key coaches and players. Its director, Ryan Arey, also made the local documentaries “Stewards of the Earth” and “We are the Indians.”
“This is an amazing story about a great basketball team,” said Arey. “The whole county rallied behind these boys.”
The movie takes its title from a referee’s controversial call that ended the Green Devils’ season in the state semi-final in Columbus. The state game ended infamously on a 3-point shot by Miami East, which may or may not have been a buzzer- beater. The questionable call prompted former Ohio Senate President Doug White of Adams County to endorse legislation to allow video replay at the state tournament.
Said Arey: “After watching this documentary, you’ll know for sure if the shot was good or not.”
The film premieres on Tuesday, March 16, 7:30 p.m. at North Adams High School. Admission is free, and copies will be available for purchase.[[In-content Ad]]
