More than $11,000 raised at annual HDH Foundation golf outing

On a gorgeous Saturday in Hillsboro, more than 20 teams teed it up for a good cause at the annual Highland District Hospital Foundation Golf Outing at the local Elks course.
At the end of the day, more than $11,000 was raised to support the GreatER Care Campaign.
The hospital plans to break ground next month on a project to expand the hospital’s emergency room from its current 4,200 square feet to nearly 9,000 square feet. The hospital and the foundation are hoping to raise $1.5 million for the five-year campaign, and so far more than $500,000 has been pledged.

“This is the first foundation event since we kicked off the GreatER Care Campaign, and it was simply a great day,” HDH Foundation Director Cathy Jones said.
“We had the best weather in the history of this golf outing, and as always, we’ve had wonderful support from the community.”
Team Prince, consisting of Brett Prince, Jereme Dill, Chris Fauber and Rodney Donley, won the four-person scramble. The Turner Funeral Home team placed second, while the Don Fender Realtors team took third.
“On an interesting note, Chris Fauber has been on the winning team four out of the five years we’ve held this tournament,” Jones said. “He won two years with the Prince team and two with First Financial Bank. If you are putting a team together for next year, I have a suggestion for one of your players!”
On one par 5 hole, several male players could be seen donning skirts and pink wigs as the men, with a small donation, could tee off from the ladies’ tee if they wore the wig and skirt.
Players could also be seen actually taking aim at the pond at the Elks in a contest to see if a player could land a golf ball in a small boat – Brett Prince, Drew Balser, Bruce Miles and Stan Kasmarcak successfully accomplished the feat.
A 4x4 John Deere Gator was on display at the golf outing. The Gator, sponsored by Five Points Implement Company Inc. and the HDH Foundation, will be raffled off later this year at Dec. 10 Hospital Foundation Holiday Ball. Raffle tickets are available at the hospital administration office and the gift shop.
“This was another fun and successful event,” Jones said. “Thanks to each and every one who helped make this day possible, and we are $11,000 closer to our GreatER Care Campaign goal.”
