Michael Bick named Bright Elementary principal

Longtime local educator and school administrator Michael Bick has been named principal of Bright Local Elementary School.
Bright Local School District Superintendent Ted Downing made the announcement Wednesday, June 15, following approval this week by the Bright Local Schools Board of Education.
Bick retired last year after 32 years in education, including the last 15 as principal at Sardinia Elementary in the Eastern Brown Local School District.
Bick, a Hillsboro High School graduate, has a master’s degree from Morehead State University and a principal license from the University of Cincinnati.
He is also a professional artist, and is well known for his many designs of glass bell artwork for the annual Fourth of July Festival of the Bells in Hillsboro.
“I’ve worked with Mike at Eastern and I am excited that he will be coming to work at Bright Elementary,” Downing said. “He will be a big addition to the ‘Wildcat Family.’”
In addition to serving as a principal, Bick also was a classroom instructor for 17 years in the Eastern Brown schools.
“I see this as a great opportunity to be in a very good school with a great staff and great kids,” Bick said, pointing out that he has previously worked in the Bright Local District as a substitute teacher. In addition, his wife, Sharon, is a teacher in the district.
“I want to help steer the students and the district in a positive direction,” Bick said.
Downing agreed, noting Bick’s established record of success as an elementary school administrator.
“We are very fortunate to get someone with Mike’s experience,” Downing told The Highland County Press.
“As you know, I’m all about getting experienced people. With Mike, there are lots of positives with what he will bring to take Bright Local forward.”
Downing said the district will be hosting events prior to the start of the 2016-17 school year for students, parents and grandparents to meet the new principal.
