Mayor of Dayton to speak to local Democrats

The mayor of Dayton, Nan Whaley, will be the keynote speaker at the Brown County Democratic Club spring dinner on Friday, April 22.
Whaley was elected mayor of the southwest Ohio city in 2014. She was first elected to the Dayton City Commission in 2005 as the youngest women ever chosen for a commission seat. Whaley also served on the Montgomery County Board of Elections and as a deputy to Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith.
Whaley is the founder of the Manufacturing Task Force;,a regional effort committed to advocating for manufacturing and promoting a strong manufacturing workforce. Partners on the task force include: the Dayton Regional Manufacturers Association, Dayton Development Coalition, Sinclair Community Colleges and the AFL-CIO.
Whaley is committed to making Dayton a bike and pedestrian friendly city. As chair of the Bike Walk Dayton Committee, Whaley strives for Dayton to become a Bicycle Friendly Community. She is also a strong advocate for a county-wide landbank system to address the region’s housing crisis with a more regional approach and serves on the Montgomery County Landbank Board.

In addition, Whaley has been committed to the political process in local, state and national elections.
Joining Whaley at the podium will be local and statewide candidates for office. The doors will open at 6 p.m. with a reception/meet and greet hour. Dinner will follow at 7 p.m. at the Southern Hills Career Center. The Christian Theatre for Children will provide dinner-time entertainment.

The Brown County Democratic Club meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the ABCAP Senior Center, 505 N. Main St. in Georgetown. All are welcome.
