Lynchburg Memorial Day plans announced

The Lynchburg Memorial Day event will commence Sunday, May 24 at the Old School Park with parade lineup at noon. Weather pending, a parade will proceed to the cemetery at around 12:30 p.m. that will include civic groups and bagpipes.

The keynote speaker will be: Ron Sampson, USAF, Colonel (ret.), a graduate of Hillsboro High School and The Ohio State University.  Sampson retired in June 1997 after 30 years on active duty.

Legion of Merit with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster
Distinguished Flying Cross
Defense Meritorious Service Medal
Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters
Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters
Humanitarian Service Medal
National Defense Medal
Armed Force Expeditionary Service Medal
Viet Nam Campaign Medal (w/7 devices)
Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry with Palm
Cold War Certificate of Recognition.

The program will include a reading of the Declaration of Independence, presentations on local fallen soldiers, singing and prayer.

The program will conclude with the Lynchburg Village Administration hosting a free community picnic at Agnes Park in the center of town, where they will honor a local veteran.

In the event of rain, all activities will be held at the Old School Park Shelter House.
