Lowe's, First Alert donate smoke detectors to Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire
Lowe’s assistant store manager Amy Smith recently secured a donation of 200 smoke detectors from First Alert for Paint Creek EMS & Fire District, to further their fire prevention efforts and to make the district a safer place for all residents.
An employee in the electrical department at the local Lowe’s store, who wishes to remain anonymous, approached store management in an effort to secure a donation of First Alert smoke detectors for residents of the district who may not have adequate coverage in their home.
According to the National Fire Protection Agency, seven people die each day in house fires. Of the deaths that occur each day, three out of five houses had either no smoke detectors or detectors that were inoperable.

This is where Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire’s residential home inspection program and the smoke detectors donated by Lowe’s and First Alert play a huge part in alerting families to the presence of fire in their home.
According to Assistant Chief Chad Hamilton, who heads up Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire’s residential inspection and safety program, homes should have, at a minimum, one smoke detector per level of the home. Additional locations for detectors are all common areas of the home, one detector in each sleeping room of the home and one detector in the basement and attic. With this strategic layout of detectors, it will alert the occupants and give them adequate time to evacuate the structure.
Thanks to Lowe’s and First Alert, these lifesaving detectors are now available to residents of the district, free of charge.
