Lorrie Morgan concert to benefit Elliott Hotel restoration project
Country music legend Lorrie Morgan will appear in concert on June 4 at the Murphy Theatre in Wilmington to benefit a Greenfield fundraiser.
Morgan’s concert will raise money for the restoration of the Elliott Hotel in Greenfield, led by Doug Karnes. A 1984 graduate of McClain High School and registered architect, Karnes purchased the Elliott Hotel in late 2015.
“With this acquisition, the Elliott has a chance to become a vibrant structure again, and a complete renovation is planned,” Karnes said.
Morgan’s career includes 14 Top 10 hits, 12 albums and four Female Vocalist of the Year awards, according to a press release. Her numerous hits include “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength,” “Five Minutes,” “Except For Monday,” “Something In Red,” “Watch Me” and “What Part Of No.” She is currently promoting a brand-new album released in February, “Letting Go … Slow,” which includes “new songs and her reinventions of country classics,” according to Morgan’s website, lorrie.com.
Karnes wrote the following statement regarding the restoration of the historical building:
“The Elliott Hotel in Greenfield has anchored the southern edge of the uptown business district for over 128 years. Since its completion in 1888, The Elliott has been home to many first-floor businesses over the years and became the premier hotel destination in the bustling little city of Greenfield.

“In recent years, the Elliott has been converted into rental apartments, and the historic character of the interior has been lost. A structural fire in 2011 damaged the building to the point where it no longer can be safely occupied. It sits abandoned today, slowly deteriorating into a decaying shell of its former glory. The goal of the restoration project is to first save the building from further decay, then transform it back into an active destination for Greenfield and surrounding areas.
“This concert is being sponsored by the new owner of the Elliott Hotel, and the proceeds (less production expenses) from the show will be used to help finance the construction work required to make the project a success. Planned uses for the Elliott Hotel building are to create a community event center on the first floor, incorporating a country music heritage center and museum. The second floor is intended to serve as a boutique hotel and short-term residences.
“Thank you to all who have donated time and money to the restoration effort to date. Thanks also to those attending this concert and be assured that the net fundraised proceeds will definitely be used for the costs of the restoration project.”
General admission is $65, and VIP tickets are $150 and include a pre-show meet and greet with Morgan, along with gifts from sponsors.
