At their May 16 meeting, the Leesburg Lions Club honored nine Fairfield Local students from grades 5-12 with G.O.O.D. Program Awards.
The G.O.O.D. Program (“Going On Or Defeated”) was started by Ron Derry, an Ohio teacher who, after 18 years of teaching, suddenly went blind. At that point, he dedicated his life to encouraging people to understand that all problems can be overcome.
The concept of the G.O.O.D. Program is to recognize young people who work hard and exhibit standards of good citizenship, personal skills and study habits.

One student from each of the eight grades was chosen by their teachers, and this year, two students were chosen from the seventh grade, twins Blake and Brant Haines. Each student received a letter of recommendation from the teachers, a certificate and a G.O.O.D. T-shirt. The senior recipient also received a $500 college scholarship.
This year’s winning students were: Sydney Sanders (fifth grade), Hannah Hodson (sixth grade), Blake and Brant Haines (seventh grade), Mikayla Griffith (eighth grade), Gabby Lowe (ninth grade), Tyce Smith (10th grade), Clayton Jacobs (11th grade) and Jacob Gebhart (12th grade). The Leesburg Lions Club congratulates all these fine students.
