Leadership transition announced at McCarty Associates

McCarty Associates, a multidisciplinary architecture, engineering and surveying firm based in Southern Ohio, has announced a leadership transition, marking a new chapter for the company as it continues to evolve and expand its services.

The firm was founded in 1963 by Lowell McCarty in Peebles and has since grown into a regional practice serving both public and private clients. Over the years, McCarty Associates has built a reputation for technical expertise and long-standing client relationships across a range of project types.

Mike McCarty Retires as Partner and CEO

Mike McCarty, son of the firm’s founder, is retiring from his role as Partner and Chief Executive Officer after more than 50 years in leadership. During his tenure, the firm experienced steady growth, expanded its multidisciplinary offerings and invested in organizational and technological improvements.

McCarty guided the company through industry changes while maintaining continuity with the firm’s original mission and values. His leadership played a key role in shaping the firm’s current structure and positioning it for future success.

Tom Purtell Named Chief Executive Officer

Longtime partner Tom Purtell has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Purtell graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University in March 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and has been with McCarty Associates ever since. Purtell brings extensive institutional knowledge and operational experience to the role.

His appointment reflects a focus on leadership continuity and long-term stability. Purtell will work alongside the existing leadership team to oversee ongoing operations and guide the firm through its next phase.

Cody Beucler Joins Partnership

As part of the leadership transition, Cody Beucler has been named a Partner alongside Tom Purtell, Jason McConnaughey, Doug Karnes and Dallas Puckett, and will now serve as Director of the Engineering Department.

Beucler is a Brown County resident originally from Sardinia. He graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and minors in business and surveying. He began his career with the Ohio Department of Transportation District 9, completing its Engineering-in-Training program and gaining experience in planning, surveying, design and construction.

He later spent eight years with Parsons Transportation, where he worked on heavy highway projects across the country and ultimately served as a project manager overseeing full project delivery. In October 2022, Beucler joined McCarty Associates to focus his work closer to home.

Beucler is a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky and a Surveyor Intern in Ohio. His professional experience includes roadway and site design, drainage, traffic control, and utility and stormwater systems. Outside of work, he farms and spends time with his wife and three kids. 

The leadership transition reflects an emphasis on continuity while supporting the firm’s long-term operational and strategic goals.
