Latest poll shows Strickland puling closer to Kasich
A poll by Ohio's eight largest newspapers and the University of Cincinnati shows that the race for governor is getting tighter, The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The newspaper said the poll shows Republican John Kasich has an apparent lead of 49-45 over Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland.
However, a recent Quinnipiac poll has Kasich ahead by a 54-37 margin.
Both polls show former Republican Congressman Rob Portman with a double-digit lead over  Democratic Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher in the race for Ohio's U.S. Senate seat. The newspapers' poll puts Portman ahead by a 55-40 margin.
The University of Cincinnati's In stitute for Policy Research surveyed 852 likely Ohio voters between Sept. 16 and Sept. 20. The poll has a margin of error or plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

In a campaign speech Sunday, Strickland said "Republicans peaked in August."
