Kelsey Sheeley, 2010 Highland County Beef Queen, (pictured with Hillsboro Kroger Manager Elise Gossett) was successful in raising nearly $500 to help the less fortunate this past Christmas.

With the help of Hillsboro Kroger and Hunter Meats in Marshall, Kelsey collected gift cards and certificates, as well as monetary donations, to purchase food items for families in need.

On Christmas Eve, Kelsey delivered food items to two families with children. Stuffed animals were donated by Miss Sarah Young from her "Build-A-Bear" collection and were presented to the seven children from the two households.

After Christmas, the remaining gift cards were used to purchase food items for the Rainsboro Charge Food Pantry, sponsored by the United Methodist Churches in Rainsboro, Marshall, and New Petersburg. The food pantry distributes food to more than 30 families in the area.

Kelsey plans to continue the "Cattlemen Care" program throughout her reign, which ends in mid-April. If you would like to help, buy a gift card at Kroger and turn it in at the service counter for the "Cattlemen Care" programs. Hunter Meats will also accept donations on Kelsey's behalf for the program.

Kelsey wishes to thank all those who helped her help others this Christmas.[[In-content Ad]]
