Kasich appoints Joe Testa commissioner of the Ohio Department of Taxation
Governor-elect John Kasich has appointed Joe Testa Commissioner of the Ohio Department of Taxation.
Testa’s life has been devoted to public service. For 24 years, Testa served the residents of Franklin County as county recorder (1985-1992) and county auditor (1992-2009).
As auditor, Testa received numerous accommodations including Auditor of the Year by the County Auditor’s Association of Ohio (2001, 2008) and the Outstanding Auditor Award by the Auditor of State (1998, 1999). He currently teaches a course on business analysis at The Ohio State University’s renowned Fisher College of Business, and he is a former adjunct professor at Columbus State Community College where he taught a variety of business and management courses. Testa is a Vietnam veteran, having served in the US Navy from 1968-1972.
As tax commissioner, Testa will oversee the administration and compliance enforcement of most of the taxes levied by the state. The Department of Taxation has additional oversight responsibilities for the administration of the real property tax by local governments, and the Department disperses revenue to local governments, libraries and school districts.
Kasich announced the appointment at a press conference in Testa’s hometown of Columbus. Testa is the seventh agency director appointed by Kasich since being elected governor on Nov. 2.
